Hong Kong healthy eating restaurant slowly gaining customers
More Hong Kong people embracing healthy eating. Healthy eating restaurants are slowly gaining more customers. As more food scandals rise, people are gravitating towards eating healthier. First Hong Kong Vegfest was organized by HK Vegan Association with 4000 people coming to it's 50 stalls.

Melamine Milk scandal-
In 2008 six babies killed and 300,000 sickened as milk formula has been infected by toxic plastic (melamine) in order to increase sales of milk.

Toxic Bean-Sprouts- 40 tons of beans-sprouts in April 2011. Vegetables treated with sodium nitrite, urea, antibiotics and plant hormone 6-benzyladenine made to make plants look shiner and grow faster.

Yard-Long Beans- Over 3.5 tons of yard-long beans contaminated by banned pesticide isocarbophos in Wuhan March 2010.

Leather Milk- Milk contamination scandal using leather-hydrolyzed protein which boost protein content of milk to boost value.

Aluminium Dumplings- China's rice crop contaminated with heavy metals. 696 samples of food made with flour tested to have aluminium levels of standards.

Glow in the dark pork- Pork glowing iridescent blue when kitchen lights turned off. Online users naming it "avatar meat". Pork is contaminated by a phosphorescent bacteria however said to still be safe if well cooked.

Lean Meat Powder Pork- Using lean meat powder (steroid) can cause dizziness, hear palpitation, diarrhea and profuse sweating.

Toxic take-away boxes- April 2010 over 7m toxic disposable food containers seized in eastern province of jaing xi. Boxes release toxic elements when warmed by food. Chemicals have potential damage to liver kidneys and reproductive organs.

Sewer oil- Investigation shows that 1 of 10 meals in china were cooked using "recycled oil" make out of oil scavenged from the sewers, processed then sold to restaurants, hotels and street food vendors.


Cadmium Rice-10% of rice sold in china contaminated with heavy metals including cadmium.
